Rangers using TV to keep an eye on elk near Aspen
Rangers are using television cameras to keep an eye on elk near Aspen to keep them from being disturbed.
Anyone spotted violating winter closure rules in elk habitat can expect contact from a ranger if they can be identified through photographs.
According to the Aspen Times (http://tinyurl.com/ct6wt89 ), the Skyline Ridge Trail has been outfitted with a couple of motion-activated cameras that allow open space officials to track how many hikers, mountain bikers and equestrians use the route.
More cameras are being installed off the trail, in areas where elk and deer are known to congregate.
