The outdoor retail chain REI awarded $20,000 to Western Slope non-profits.

Officials presented the money at the North Avenue store, Saturday.

$10,000 was given to support the Colorado Plateau Mountain Bike Trails Association.

Colorado Canyons Association and Grand Mesa Nordic Council each got $5,000.

These organizations are dedicated to preserving outdoor recreation and say it wouldn't be possible without funds like these.

REI will give $4.2 million this year to non-profits across the country that work to preserve and maintain natural spaces through active volunteer programs.
