GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. -

Authorities say a pilot is alive after crashing their plane near the west entrance of the Glenwood Canyon Saturday.

The Garfield County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash after receiving a distress call shortly before 2:00 pm.

At 6:45 pm, rescue crews were able to locate the downed Cessna 172 Skyhawk and the pilot who survived the crash.

Authorities say the pilot was the only person on board the single-engine, high-wing fixed-wing aircraft. They have been transported to the hospital with unknown injuries. Officials say the pilot was alert and talking.

The plane crash site was located on the Jess Weaver Trail above the No Name Creek Trailhead.
