Pitkin County has agreed to support a long-discussed land swap involving Limited Brands Inc. founder Leslie Wexner.
The Aspen Daily News reports (http://bit.ly/Waq9Nc ) Wexner has agreed to conserve additional land and fund trails for the county in exchange for commissioners' support of a proposal to privatize 1,200 acres of federal land near Mount Sopris next to Wexner's Two Shoes Ranch. The BLM is evaluating the federal swap proposal.
Wexner is offering the federal government the 557-acre Sutey Ranch, north of Carbondale and next to the Red Hill Recreation Area, in exchange for the Sopris acreage. The BLM also would get a 112-acre parcel that would allow mountain bikers access to "The Crown" recreation area, and Wexner is offering $1.1 million to the BLM to help manage the properties.
The county agreement is separate from the federal BLM review.
