Officials discuss the new Greater Downtown Plan
The greater downtown plan entails re-developing areas from 5th to 12th street, along with working on the landscape of Las Colonias Park.
The planners say they want to focus on making the Colorado River more accessible to people.
They also add that the plan has a huge potential for future businesses.
“We see some great opportunity in what we're deeming the rail district and the river district for some of the major corridors to potentially re-develop in the future, and maybe provide for some more opportunities for mixed use, for services for some restaurants.”
One business is already setting up within the area; edge water brewery is currently under construction south of the river side parkway.
The city services manager hopes the brewery will help attract other businesses and shops as well.
City planners and officials say they'll be bringing the greater downtown plan idea to the city council within in the month.
They're hopeful that the plan will pass, so that they can get started on the re-development right away.
