The Grand Junction Police Department is restructuring its units and re-assigning officers. As a result of the moves, some programs will be temporarily suspended.
The department has had several officers leave or accept other jobs recently and that's caused it to reevaluate all of its units.
After assessing where it needs officers most, the decision was made to temporarily reassign officers to patrol units on the streets but that's left two other units without any cops at all.
“We had our officers from our traffic unit reassigned temporarily as well as our homeless outreach team temporarily reassigned” said Kate Porras, Public Information Officer for Grand Junction Police Department.
Officials do want to stress that this is only temporary. They have eight officers currently taking part in a training program and once those officers are ready to patrol the streets, those other units will be back up and running.
The police department says it's actively recruiting new officers, so if you're interested and qualified give them a call.
