A Mesa County teenager accused of mutilating his mom's dog and hanging its body from a bridge was sentenced on Wednesday.
Joseph Nelson, 18, will spend 18 months in Community Corrections. He will also serve 5 years probation and have to attend mental health treatment.
Nelson has to pay more than $3,500 in fines.
In September, he pled guilty to an aggravated cruelty to animals charge, while two other charges were dropped.
