Prosecutors have formally charged a man in the fatal shooting of a police officer who was responding to a fight at Denver's City Park, where thousands of people had gathered for a free weekly jazz concert.
The Denver district attorney's office says 21-year-old Rollin Oliver was charged Monday with first-degree murder with extreme indifference.
The charge alleges Oliver fired multiple rounds during an altercation at the park June 24, as a City Park Jazz concert was wrapping up. Officer Celena Hollis was killed when one of the shots struck her in the head.
Oliver is being held without bond. He is due in court Thursday to be advised of the charge against him.
Online jail records didn't indicate whether he has an attorney who could comment on his behalf.
