The city of Montrose is working on a new tourism and promotions budget with some major changes.
Officials say there's a big chunk of money to spend and they're asking residents how it should be used.
They say the amount of money coming into the city is on an upswing.
This year it has $625,000 to spend on boosting the city's appeal.
All that money comes from tax revenue, some from retail sales enhancement and even more from the tourism promotion fund.
The Association of Commerce and Tourism used to help manage the funds, but just recently the city council decided to take it on themselves.
“The overall goal of the program itself is to market our community the best way we know how by utilizing local talent and resources,” City Manager Bill Bell said. “We’re trying to learn what the community really needs us to do and what they want us to do.”
City Council held a public forum, asking residents to brainstorm and share their ideas on ways to spend the money.
Officials say even if you weren't able to make it, they still want to hear your thoughts.
There’s a lot of work left to do before the new tourism and promotions budget can be finalized.
The city says it hopes to make the switch in April.
It’s planning on spending every bit of the money so it can get the most return on the investment.
