GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -

Officials with a local non-profit organization have decided to re-brand their business with a new name and logo.

Mesa Developmental Services, or MDS, will now be known as STRIVE.

STRIVE isn't an abbreviation, but more of a goal to improve services and bring dignity to those they care for.

The organization serves children and adults with developmental delays and disabilities.

MDS has been a fixture in our community for  47-years, and officials say the name has often created more confusion than anything else.

"Mesa Developmental Services, oftentimes people think we're a land development company, a gas company, or even part of the Mesa County Government," explained Joe Warner, the vice-president of the STRIVE board. "And so that confusion has often been a detriment for us, and we wanted to go a different direction, get some new energy."

STRIVE currently serves 780 children  and adults from five program sites and 15 group homes throughout the community.

The organization is also a major contributor to the local economy.
