It's a growing trend in this country, children being diagnosed with autism. It's a lifelong challenge for them and their loved ones.
Locally, Mesa Developmental Services wants people to know there is help out there.
The new services program, called Audyssey, will help with diagnostic screening and the evaluation and provision of, or referral to, additional services.
Sharon Jacksi, PhD., with Mesa Developmental Services, says these types of services can be invaluable to families looking for a better way forward for loved ones affected by autism spectrum disorder.
"...So we've been developing programs for both children and adults," Jacksi explained. "We focus on a lifespan approach to education and treatment."
That lifespan approach offers occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, and behavioral services for children up to age three.
There are social-thinking groups and individual counseling for kids and adults, and home setting and employment support for adults.
There are even limited opportunities for support for entire families.
