Mesa County kids get their chance to vote
It's not often that kids get the opportunity to experience a presidential election voting process.
"Kids Voting Colorado" is an organization that encourages young people to become informed voters by educating and engaging students and their families with voting and other forms of civic participation.
They say their overall goal is to build a strong community of engaged, responsible citizens through early civic education, involvement, and voting.
Executive Director of the organization Martha Graf said, “We were really impressed I mean that's a good turn out for the kids, and turn out is only part of the story we were hoping that the majority if not all of the students are voting informed cause that's one of our biggest emphasis is that we want to get students to know what they're voting about and make informed choices.”
Early voting was also available for kids both online and at their school's locations.
The mock vote resulted in electing Mitt Romney as their president.
A little more than seventeen thousand votes were cast from kids this year, an impressive number according to the voting organization.
