GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -

We got a chance to talk with most of the candidates from districts one and three today; they seem excited about the upcoming elections.

The candidates may have different backgrounds and experience; but all of them have one main goal for Mesa County.

As Election Day approaches, the candidates for district one are focusing on one of the nation's most popular topics, an issue that not only effects the nation, but folks here in the grand valley.

Candidate, John Justman said, "Jobs, we have to do whatever we can I’d like to work with GJEP, CMU, mesa county economic development group make sure we're all pulling in the same direction, and I’d like to make things available to the local business's that are already here, and I’d like to attract new business's too."

Candidate Justman says he has conservative values and as a businessman for over 30 years has had a hand in creating jobs.

The candidates all see jobs as a number one priority, but with different backgrounds come different ways of solving the jobs equation.

"I think it's my business background, the way I approach things I am very pragmatic,  I really look at the issue I am not voting on a party line or a ticket, and I picked the color purple because it's the combination of the red and blue and i think we need to work together, and I chose to run unaffiliated because as an unaffiliated candidate and a mesa county citizen it doesn't matter to me whether you have a "d" or an "I" behind your name," said candidate, Jana Bingham Gerow.

Gerow is also an experienced business woman, and says she's committed hundreds of hours volunteering for various committees.

The final candidate running for commissioner of district one, John Leane previously served as commissioner from 1989 to 1993.

"I would argue that the experience of being commissioner in the past, gives me a leg up I won't have the learning curve that new people will, it is a touch job it is not easy I’ll be the first to tell you" said candidate John Leane

As for the commissioner race for district three; there's candidate Rose Pugliese, a small business owner who wants to focus on creating an advisory committee to help job growth.

The other candidate Dave Edwards, has been involved in politics his whole life and is focus on reducing the cost of various projects.
