Mesa County Economic Development Partners discuss new business plans

Mesa County Economic Development Partners meet to discuss their new ideas for growing business in the Grand Valley.

The partners met at the convention center to review their accomplishments but more importantly, to talk about their plans on working one-on-one with local businesses.

Almost two years ago Governor Hickenlooper began the Colorado Blueprint Economic Development Plan.

Since then over three million dollars has been invested in the community to accomplish various goals.

Today the partners said they want to focus on elevating the community profile by developing a unified community message, portraying what the Grand Valley is all about.

Another item on the agenda is the re-launching of a program that will help local businesses thrive.

"Exciting news in 2013 as we mentioned, we're going to re-launch our "listening to business program." Getting out to industry sectors, asking very specific questions about your business, what are the opportunities for you to grow? Are you facing any challenges? How can we help you?" explained Kelly Flenniken, Executive Director of GJEP.

The group of business leaders also felt it was important to report their progress to the community.

They said they've made many accomplishments with their first response team, a group of partners that work with local businesses by supporting them and helping them retain jobs.

The team is also proud of the work they've done with CMU in developing an energy epicenter.

The epicenter allows for further applied research and industry involvement.
