GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -

It was a frightening night for some Grand Junction residents when a man comes bursting into their home and then barricades himself inside.

Sheriff’s deputies have taken the man into custody after he fled from police following a traffic stop.

Lawrence Short was out on parole for burglary when this routine traffic stop turned into a chase.

He ran into a home near 25 and I Roads with six people inside.

They were able to get out unharmed and say they had no connection to the suspect.

SWAT arrived with a search a warrant but Short surrendered and was quickly arrested.

Lisa McCammon, with the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, says, “He’s going to be charged with at least first degree criminal trespassing which is a felony. He was on parole for burglary so he'll probably be going back to prison.”

Authorities searched and cleared the home.

Right now, they're not ruling out any reason why Short might've run, but they suspect drugs may be involved.
