Man rescued after falling into river
Hunter taken by ambulance to hospital, thought to be okay
Around noon Tuesday, first responders from Lower Valley Fire Department and the GJFD, along with local law enforcement, responded to the call of a man who had fallen through the ice while hunting near the Colorado River.
The incident happened near milemarker 24 and I-70B.
Chief Frank Cavalieri with the Lower Valley Fire Department says ice rescue team members located the man and were able to hoist him back up onto the ice. The man, accompanied by rescue workers, was able to walk to the opposite shoreline under his own power. The dog he was with was found safe.
Once onshore, an ambulance took the man to a local hospital, where his condition is unknown. Chief Cavalieri said the man appeared to be in good shape, but hypothermia was a concern, as the man had spent around a half hour in the frigid waters of the Colorado River.
