Local business gives Thanksgiving meal to Vets

"It's a treat plus it's an honor that they were actually thinking about us, for too many years as homeless vets, nobody ever thought about us. Somebody who shows this type of caring, it's a wonderful feeling," said Lipinski.

That's Clarence Lipinski, a formerly homeless vet who now lives at St. Martin place.

Their motto is "a place to call home" and that's exactly what it is for these veterans.

Sandy Clark said, "They moved in last December so they've been here almost a year, and catholic outreach along with HUD and the VA support our veterans here at St. Martin place."

"It's very comforting, because we all understand each other," added Lipinski.  

Todd Simpson, owner of property services, was in search of a way to give back to veterans for the holiday, so when he heard about St. Martin he knew it was a perfect fit.

"We're thankful for all veterans, my brother's a veteran and there's a ton of them out there, a lot of them go unrecognized and unappreciated, and we can't thank them enough," said Simpson.

St. Martin now houses 14 veterans who used to be homeless.

"For thirty years I never celebrated thanksgiving, you know the holidays I never celebrated them, because I lived in the mountains and I didn't associate with people," said Lipinski.

Lipinski says for him, celebrating thanksgiving this year is irreplaceable.

"It's a priceless gift to have, you don't know what you have until you miss it, you if you haven't had it, and then you get it and you realize wow this is really different."
