News last week that Toys For Tots will not be collecting gifts has many in the community wondering how to fill the gap.
In the last week, many individuals and community organizations have come forward, offering to help make Christmas possible for area families.
Today the eight local Lions' clubs announced they are teaming up with the Salvation Army to bring needy kids gifts for the holidays.
Lion's members will place collection boxes around the valley, then work with the Mesa County Workforce Center to distribute the toys to needy families.
The president of the Grand Junction Lions' Club says everyone in the community can take part in making Christmas better.
"We're going to really rely on the expertise at the Salvation Army and the members of our community to help us get through this tough time, and provide some extra smiles on Christmas morning," president Ky Oday said.
Oday says he wants to get as many toys as they can collect.
The Lions' Club says you should start seeing boxes around town in the next week or so. They will be collecting up until mid December.
