The controversy surrounding the Republican candidate for House District 54 is helping the other candidate in the race.

In a news conference Tuesday, Libertarian Tim Menger said the dispute between Jared Wright and the Fruita Police Department is creating more awareness of his campaign.

Menger is not collecting money for his campaign to prove how financially conservative he is.

He says in the last week the District 54 race is allowing him to share his politics without having to spend any money.

"All of a sudden in the past week I’ve received a lot more publicity which wouldn't have come had this Jared Wright thing not blown up,” Menger said. “I can make no comment on Jared Wright because he's in an investigation."

Menger says he has no skeletons in his closet and we need to do a better job keeping corruption out of politics.

There is no democrat candidate in the race for House District 54.
