Large VA donation to benefit groups

The person who donated $375,000 to the VA Medical Center in Grand Junction only had one restriction, that the money be used on group programs.

Paul Sweeney, spokesperson for the Grand Junction VA, says the donor wanted to make sure the money wasn't going to individual people.

Some programs at the VA will not see a penny from the donation, however others will see a large infusion of cash.

Sweeney says programs such as group therapy, or activities such as a vegetable garden or arts and crafts could use the money.

Ultimately the medical center gets to make the call on what group programs or activities to spend the money on.

"The donor put a few restrictions on it," Sweeney explained. "But it's up to us to determine beyond that how it can be used, so anything that benefits a group of veterans. We cannot use this donation for every activity we have and for every fund, and there are a lot of funds that we have that won't be supported by it."
