King plans on pushing marijuana DUID bill once more
Bill aims to reduce injuries and fatalities related to drivers under the influence
Colorado State Senator Steve King announced early Monday afternoon a plan to re-introduce legislation aimed at curbing driving while under the influence of THC, the main psychoactive chemical in marijuana.
The bill calls for for an impairment level of 5 nanograms per milliliter of blood.
In a press release, King says, "the proposed legislation is based on statistics that demonstrate an increase in the number of drivers under the influence of THC, and a corresponding rise in traffic fatalities caused by these impaired drivers, and also on scientific research that shows objective signs of impairment at the 5ng/ml level."
"This bill is designed solely to help keep our roads and highways safe," said Senator King. "If someone chooses to smoke marijuana, they should not endanger others by getting behind the wheel, and this legislation will help ensure that they do not."
