The suspect arrested for shooting a man at a Grand Junction motel was in court Tuesday morning to face sentencing.
Joseph Martin Lara was sentenced to 22 years in prison for assault with a deadly weapon, with credit for 257 days of time served.
Lara's original charges included first degree murder, according to police.
The charges were filed after Lara allegedly shot a man on June 4, 2012, at the Affordable Inn on Horizon Drive in Grand Junction.
Police said the victim was in his room on the second floor of the motel when he was shot one time in the stomach.
The victim had moderate injuries and was treated at St. Mary's Hospital.
