January not only marks the beginning of the year, it's also national mentoring month, and partners of Grand Junction says it's the perfect time to get involved with the community.
Partners currently has 110 partnerships; however they also have a waiting list filled with kids who are looking for a mentor.
Partners is a national association that began in Denver in 1968.
Today there are 10 partners affiliates throughout the state that work with a wide range of youth who are in need of friends, advocates, and positive role models.
Mentor and employee of partners, Mary Damico, mentored a young girl for six years.
Mary said the partnership was beneficial to both of them.
"It's just rewarding to know that I had the opportunity to change the life of a young lady, it was just a great experience. It's a huge opportunity to be a part of someone's life and be that person to give them the guidance they need," said Mary.
Partners mission is to make a difference in the lives of young people by helping them develop a positive self image and sense of belonging,= and they've been right here in Mesa County since 1977.
