Illustration-a-thon supporting student creativity

Keeping art in local schools is the cause behind one Grand Valley organization.

Super Rad Art Jam is working to bring appreciation, understanding, and support for student creativity.

The group formed a few years back after budget cuts began taking their toll on art programs in our area.

Since then its funded local high school art shows, provided supplies, even helped make graffiti legal in some skate parks.

Super Rad Art Jam believes art is essential to many kid's learning process.

In order to continue helping it needs to fundraise.    

“We were sitting around, trying to come up with new ideas for fundraisers. We wanted something interactive,” Tyler Malnerich, the organization’s vice president, said.

What they came up with was an illustration-a-thon.

Here’s how it works. Five dollars gets you a five minute custom illustration from a local artist, and ten dollars gets you a ten dollar illustration.

“This way you actually get to sit down with an artist and see how they work,” Malnerich said.

The event is taking place Sunday, January 27 at Sabrosa restaurant at 122 south 5th street.  It goes from 5pm until 9pm and is open to all ages.

All proceeds benefit the Super Rad Art Jam.
