The city of Grand Junction only has eight trucks equipped to plow the snow off the roads.

Manager of street maintenance, Darren Starr, says, they simply don't have enough man power or resources to clear all the roads in residential areas.

Starr adds that the city's main objective is to make the main streets safe for ambulances, police and the fire department.

"It is zero or below zero out there and it doesn't matter how much salt or magnesium chloride we put on it, it's not going to melt it anyways it's not going to remove it. so as temperatures start to rise we watch the pavement temperatures we would go out and treat those areas and try to get them clear as soon as possible," explained Starr.

Starr also said plowing the back roads would cause further problems such as snow piles blocking driveways and frozen areas after the piles of snow melt.

 His team monitors all the streets, looking out for hazardous spots within the city

The maintenance team says they keep a close eye on problem areas, especially around hospitals, schools and intersections.
