Ice rink nears opening

While skiers and riders finally have some snow on the mountains, ice skaters still haven't had their chance, at least not yet.

Ice Rink, Inc. has been working for months now, preparing for its 2nd season of outdoor skating in Grand Junction.

The rink says this year's skating season is long over-due.  They say last year's weather allowed the rink to open right after Thanksgiving.

But the owner thinks with a little luck from the weather, they'll be able to open their doors this week.

Curt Maki, the executive director of the company explained they are now, "In the process right now of trying to finish off our flood, so we can get ice in here and we can start skating on it, but the temperatures haven't been cooperating in the last few days, along with the rain and everything that's going on. But looking at the forecast, we're hoping for some colder temperatures at night and we can finish this off here in the next couple days and be ready to start skating."

Maki says this years season will have more daily public skating sessions, along with classes, including beginner courses.
