GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -

On Tuesday morning, a Mesa County couple was rescued from the Grand Mesa after failing to return home Monday after hiking.

The pair was reported overdue around 6:20 a.m. Tuesday.

A helicopter, ATV and a Search and Rescue ground crew scanned the area, looking for the missing hikers early Tuesday.

The husband and wife were spotted by a helicopter searching the area. They were airlifted back to the trail head.

Emergency responders says the rescued hikers were tired and hungry but were able to drive themselves home.

They had a dog with them as well.
