GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -

Santa's elves were busy Thursday.

After spending hours collecting and wrapping presents, volunteers working for Hope of the Grand Valley were able to have gifts ready for parents in the Adopt-a-Family program.

Some of the gifts have already been delivered, but some parents came in to pick up their gifts.

Over one thousand presents were collected and wrapped.

Vicki McGee, founder of Hope of the Grand Valley, says the families in the program are working and paying their bills, but when it comes to Christmas they can't always afford to give their child what they ask for.

McGee says what she hopes to do is to help bring joy on Christmas morning.

"...That's what these parents are going to be able to do," she explained. "We have bicycles, we have scooters, we have longboards, we have it all, and that's what they asked for. And because we have a generous community these kids are getting what they asked for, and I just think that's incredible."

Hope of the Grand Valley is always looking for more volunteers. It has programs running all year to help those in need.  If you'd like to volunteer, call 970-778-4880.
