Group escapes avalanche at Arapahoe Basin Ski Area
DENVER (AP) - An avalanche overtook a group of 15 skiers at Arapahoe Basin Ski Area, but no serious injuries were reported.
A statement released by the Summit County resort says an A-Basin ski patroller was leading a group of 14 skiers when the avalanche was triggered in west Montezuma Bowl at about 2:45 p.m. Saturday.
The area was closed to the general public, but the resort says it had undergone "extensive" avalanche mitigation in recent days.
The Denver Post reports (http://bit.ly/XXSJ1c ) all of the skiers were accounted for, and one of them had to be taken off the mountain because of a knee injury.
The resort and the Colorado Avalanche Information Center are investigating.
