Grandpa, grandson rescued from snowy elk hunt
Authorities say a grandpa and his grandson were safely rescued after they got disoriented during an elk hunting trip in snowy East Canyon.
Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal says the 52-year-old man and 13-year-old boy called police about 3 p.m. Sunday to report they were lost.
A Salt Lake County search and rescue crew used snowmobiles and ATVs to transport the duo out by about 7:30 p.m. Hoyal says the two were cold, but otherwise fine.
Hoyal says there's cellphone service in the area, which helped crews find the pair quickly. He recommends hunters and others bring their phones when they venture into the wilderness.
