Grand Valley reactions to President Obama's Universal Preschool Plan

There is talk in the White House about creating a Universal Preschool Plan that will add preschool to the k-12 education. It's still too early to have all the details of President Obama's plan, but the White House has a history of underfunding and falling short on proposed reforms for k-12.

KJCT News 8 posted a question on our KJCT Facebook page to find out what Grand Valley residents thought of preschool education. We got a flood of comments on our Facebook page:

Terri H. said, "The problem is the children are really not getting taught at home. (I) work for Headstart and you can tell the ones that parents don't work with them they are to busy trying to work to make a living."

Sharon B. writes, "Yes it is important to have preschool for toddlers but does the government have to provide it for all of them and who will pay the cost?"

Jacqulyn N. commented that it's quote, "Very important! My daughter attends holy family, and has learned so much this year! she is ready for kindergarten now. It's also good for her to learn social skills by being around other children."

Christina M. says, "I had a bad experience so I kept my kids home and taught them. So when my kids reach a milestone, I get the satisfaction of knowing i taught them before they were in school!"

It is unclear when or if these proposed changes will happen. We contacted District 51 to hear their thoughts, but they were unable to comment today.
