GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -

A 36-year-old Grand Junction woman was arrested on a warrant accusing her of having sex with a minor multiple times last year, according to Grand Junction police.

Wendy Crowell is facing charges of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust.

The charges stem from a case in June of 2012.

A warrant was issued for Crowell last Thursday and deputies with the Mesa County Sheriff's Office arrested her at her home on Friday.

According to the arrest affidavit, the mother of the victim called police to report that her son was having sex with Crowell.

The victim's mother said her son was friends with Wendy's son, and Crowell spent a lot of time taking the boys rafting and on similar outings.

The victim's mom was able to read her son's text messages and confronted him about suspicious comments between he and Wendy, police report.

The arrest affidavit states that the boy admitted to having intercourse with Crowell five times in three weeks.

He said the sex wasn't forced but acknowledged the fact that Wendy may have been taking advantage of the situation.

They allegedly had sex at Wendy's home a few times and a couple times while parked in her car, according to the affidavit.

When Wendy was initially brought in for questioning on June 26, 2012, her phone was checked and police collected DNA samples.

Investigators determined there was enough evidence to charge Crowell with sexual assault, occurring multiple times between May, 20 and June, 20 of 2012.
