According to the September report Grand Junction collected a total of 4.4 million dollars in sales and use taxes, a decline of two tenths of a percent from last years collections report.
Although there has been a decline, the county office says that the dip was small and officials remain optimistic about the future saying popular events in the fall will bring increased sales in retail.
Jodi Romero, Operations Director said, “We were surprised to see it lower last month, so time will tell and we have a couple of more months left in the year, but we feel comfortable that we're going to come in either at or a little bit above our budget.”
Romero adds that even though the October sales tax report showed a decrease, overall she expects sales tax collections for 2012 to exceed those of last years.
