Girl police say was shot by mom awakes from coma
A 2-year-old Denver girl who police say was shot in the head by her mother before the woman took her own life has awoken from a deep coma.
Denver Health spokeswoman Cindy Matthews says Isabel Perez awoke Feb. 11 and will be transferred to a different hospital next week.
Police say 23-year-old Mayra Nunez shot her three children and then killed herself at the family's home Feb. 6. Nunez's 4-year-old daughter, Navaeh Morales, and her almost 2-year-old son, Eric Perez, died.
Doctors say Isabel is licking her lips, watching people in the room and moving her extremities on her right side.
Dr. Ken Winston tells KMGH-TV (http://bit.ly/ZnpK82 ) "I don't usually use the word miracle, but if you could ever use it this would be the example."
