The second annual Rollin' On the River is getting ready to rev up this weekend.
Saturday's 5k at the Botanical Gardens along the Riverfront Trail benefits Mesa Developmental Services.
The organization provides programs for children with developmental delays and disabilities.
There will be a course for runners and another for walkers and rollers.
Marilee Langfitt, the vice president of marketing for the non-profit, says the money raised at this event will go a long way in helping kids with special needs.
"We need to fund raise to fill the gap between what we actually get in disability funding and what it actually costs to provide the services to them at a very intensive level during their critical developmental years, which would be birth to age three," Langfitt explained. "If we can help the children during that age range, our success rate is so much greater."
Following the walk will be a lunch donated by Enzo's Pizzeria and there will also be musical entertainment and activities for children.
Registration is $25 for adults and $15 for seniors and students 10 and up. Children under 10 are free.
You can register at http://www.mesadev.org or by clicking on the Rollin' On the River logo on the front page of KJCT8.com.
You can also register at the event. Registration starts at 8:30am this Saturday at the Botanical Gardens, and the run, walk, and roll kicks off at 10am.
A couple of local media outlets will also be butting heads at the race. KJCT News 8 has several of its news staff, including Eddie Sheerr, Dann Cianca, Jason Atcho, and Drew Wilkins gearing up for a friendly competition with the MBC Grand Radio team, fronted by K-Star Program Director Tom Sheldon.
