Garfield County commissioners are asking federal officials to proceed with a drilling plan for the Roan Plateau, despite a court ruling that requires further review requested by environmental groups.
The federal court ruling last month keeps federal leases for oil and gas drilling in place while the review is being conducted.
The plan calls for phased drilling on the largely undeveloped top of the biologically rich plateau.
According to the Glenwood Springs Post Independent (http://bit.ly/OtwGcH ), the judge ruled that the Bureau of Land Management failed to sufficiently address an alternative that would leave much of the surface of the plateau undisturbed.
