GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -

A Grand Junction physical education teacher placed second in her age group at the CrossFit Games in California this weekend.

Mary Beth Litsheim teaches at Grand Mesa Middle School in Fruitvale and started "crossfitting" in June of 2010. She is a mother of four and a grandmother of two.

She placed second in the individual competition Sunday for women ages 50 to 54.

The Games season is a three-stage journey. The first step is the Open, a worldwide, inclusive, five-week competition that kicks off on February 22. 

The top athletes from the Open in each of 17 regions qualified for the second step of competition called Regionals. The Regional competitions ran for five weeks from April 27 to May 27.

The season culminated in the 2012 Reebok CrossFit Games held this past weeked at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. At the Games, thousands of participants were whittled down to around a 100 of the fittest men and women in the world.
