Fruita man jailed in hammer attack
A Fruita man is behind bars after police say he attacked another man with a rusty claw hammer.
The incident allegedly happened Friday night. According to police reports, the victim says he was attacked after Cory Davis, 37, told him to not spank his own daughter.
The victim told police Davis got angry and suddenly hit him repeatedly with the hammer.
Police noticed several scratches, bumps, and bruises on the victim's head, back, and right shoulder. They also took note of a black eye on Davis' girlfriend.
Despite denying having been in a fight that night, Davis was taken to the Mesa County Jail after the victim identified him as the attacker.
He is currently being held on suspicion of Second Degree Assault with a Deadly Weapon and cannot post bond.
