Fruita 1st grader awarded for heroism
A Fruita first grader is awarded for courageously calling 9-1-1, saving his mother's life.
Rimrock Elementary held a surprise ceremony, using the 6-year-old's real life experience to teach other students about the emergency system.
In the middle of the night, Cade Greager’s mom suffered an insulin reaction.
He knew to call 9-1-1 and followed dispatcher's directions, in turn proving himself a brave example to his classmates.
Since the incident, classes at Rimrock have been learning the ins and outs of the 9-1-1 system.
Cade was very surprised to find out that Tuesday’s ceremony was all for him. His friends, family, teachers, and local authorities call him a hero.
“If I didn't save my mom's life she wouldn't even be here,” Cade explained
Cade was presented a special plaque in front of his entire class. He even got some other gifts from the police and fire departments.
To this day Cade’s mom says her son saved her life. He’s her hero and a leader to his first grade class.
