Fire displaces Grand Junction family
Afternoon blaze erupted on Grand Avenue
Fire crews responded to a house fire on the 200 block of Grand Avenue Tuesday afternoon.
The call came in around 3:45pm.
One person at the home didn't realize the house was on fire, but a police officer was nearby and was able to warn the resident.
Authorities say the fire started on the outside of the house, and most of the damage was done to the exterior.
The fire did spread to another house nearby but crews were able to quickly contain it.
Authorities say they don't know how the fire started
The American Red Cross responded to the affected home, and says four adults have been displaced, two in each home according to the Grand Junction Fire Department.
A Disaster Action Team is assessing damages and determining how the Red Cross can help those displaced by the fire.
The Red Cross says they typically provide for essential immediate needs such as housing for the night, food, blankets, comfort kits, clothing and help refilling medications destroyed by the fire.
They also want to remind folks that if they want more information about fire prevention or want to donate to help local residents affected by disaster like this one, visit www.ColoradoRedCross.org.
