Energy workers in foreign countries at risk
Oil and gas workers overseas are facing dangers from terrorist
Many oil and gas companies that operate locally also have employees in foreign countries. Sometimes the job takes them to more dangerous regions of the world including northern Africa and the Middle East.
With the hostage situation in Algeria, which includes Americans at a gas plant, questions are being raised about the security of energy workers overseas. David Ludlam is the Executive Director of the West Slope Colorado Oil and Gas Association.
“The companies will go through an internal planning process where they come up with safety protocols that are tailored specifically for the country that they're working in” says Ludlam.
Some of the companies that operate both locally and overseas include Halliburton and Chevron. Ludlam says he believes more drilling domestically will limit the danger workers face abroad.
In the meantime, it’s likely we’ll see more added security for energy workers in hostile regions.
