GRAND JUNCTION -

The line wrapped around the building as hundreds of people waited to fill up their bowls with soup and help out a good cause.

It’s for Grand Valley Catholic Outreach's 17th annual Empty Bowls fundraiser.

Our local soup kitchen is run by Catholic Outreach and the Empty Bowls event marks the only way the organization raises funds for the entire year.

The goal is to raise about $35 thousand in a single day. The organization will reach that goal by serving soup.

People choose a bowl from the nearly 900 donated by local potters and enjoy some soup and dessert.

After, they take their bowls home to remind them there are people who are hungry in our valley.

On any given day, about 250 individuals, families and children will come to catholic outreach for the noon-day meal.

Those meals are made possible by Saturday’s event.

Empty Bowls has increasingly gained generous community support to feed the hungry.

The event is successful because of the generosity of so many who wish to help feed those who are hungry in our community.
