Early morning fire on Horizon Drive
Horizon Drive back open after early morning blaze
It was a busy morning for firefighters with the Grand Junction Fire Department.
At 12:09 a.m. on Monday, they responded to a structure fire with 9 units and 21 Personnel at the Country Inn at 718 Horizon Drive.
According to Mike Page with the Grand Junction Fire Department, crews found smoke and fire coming from a ground floor apartment and possible extension to the second floor.
Crews were able to knock down the fire pretty quickly and they also established a vent hole on the roof around 12:45 a.m.
The fire was under control at 12:30 a.m. and the hot spots were extinguished at 12:52 a.m.
There are 40 rooms in this building but only four were occupied. There were 7 people evacuated and all were given new rooms in the rest of the motel.
Page tells KJCT News 8 that the cause of the fire is under investigation at this time. There was moderate damage to the room of origin and to the room directly above it. There was a hole was cut in the roof to help ventilate the building. There were no injuries due to the fire.
We also want to let motorists know that Horizon Drive is back open to vehicles this morning after it was temporarily closed due to the fire.
