Docs send mixed signals on Amendment 64
Endorsements on both sides to start the workweek
Another group has publicly said no to Amendment 64.
The Colorado Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics board of directors says the amendment is wrong for Colorado's children.
They say they based their opposition on a number of studies on the effects of marijuana on children.
The group says since dispensaries began operating there have been more accidental ingestions of the drug by young children.
Between October 2009 and December 2011, fourteen children ages 8 months to 12 years were seen for accidental ingestion.
Other studies listed found the use of the drug before age 15 leads to poorer neuro-cognitive functioning and puts teenagers at increased risk of developing psychosis.
Another group of doctors, however, is voicing their support for Amendment 64. Monday we also received word that more than 300 physicians from across the state will announce support of the amendment.
They plan on making the announcement at a press conference in Denver Tuesday morning.
