District Attorney: Charges Needed To Be Filed For Heather Jensen
Heather Jensen arrested in Florida
Heather Jensen was arrested in Florida on a warrant out of Mesa County, charging her with two counts of Child Abuse Resulting in Death among other charges, according to police.
Jensen was the mother of William and Tyler; the two boys were found unconscious in Heather's vehicle November 27, on the Grand Mesa near Powderhorn.
On January 8, the Mesa County coroner said the boys died from Hyperthermia and the deaths were determined to be an accident.
Around 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, their mother was arrested in North Fort Myers, Florida. Police said she was at a family member's home when she was taken into custody.
According to officials, she's being charged with two counts of Child Abuse Resulting in Death, two counts of Criminally Negligent Homicide and one count of False Reporting to Authorities.
According to the arrest affidavit, Jensen lied to authorities on several accounts, including how long Tyler and William were in the vehicle alone.
"Was there a reasonable and unjustifiable risk that some harm could occur to these children being left alone in a car for that period of time and my conclusion is yes and that's why I filed these charges," said District Attorney Pete Hautzinger.
Hautizinger says he doesn't remember another case where he filed criminal charges when the coroner's report ruled a death an accident.
Jensen is currently being held on $150,000 bond.
