District 51 to get more officers
Grant allows sheriff's office to re-hire officers
Schools in District 51 will start to see more school resource officers thanks to some help from the Department of Justice.
The County Commissioners have given approval for the district to accept a $375,000 grant to re-hire school resource officers.
Officials from the sheriff's office say this is a big step towards making our schools safer, and helping identify problems before they become bigger issues.
"One thing, it can allow the officers in the schools to be more proactive as opposed to just reactive” said Heather Benjamin, Public Information Officer at the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office.
