The newest fast food restaurant here in Grand Junction is taking care of the valley's homeless, all while gearing up for its grand opening.
For a couple weeks now, Del Taco employees have been training for their jobs. That means making a lot of food that store operators don't want to waste.
Instead of throwing it out, twice a day they're giving food to the Homeward Bound homeless shelter. That’s about $500 worth of food each day.
Del Taco says its goal is to lift a burden and simply help out.
“They’ve been very happy that we're doing this for them,” Operations manager H.B. Mason said. “They come and say thank you so much, you saved us this one night, and we're so grateful to everybody,”
Employee training has just about wrapped up, but Del Taco says it's already brain storming future ways to give back to Grand Junction.
The restaurant officially opens its doors at 11pm on Tuesday the 22rd.
