School District 51 is encouraging parents to ask questions and get engaged with what's happening in their kid's schools.

It’s holding several community meetings this school year where staff will be available to answer those questions.

Whether they're questions about school safety and the academic calendar or testing and bus routes, D51 wants people to be in the loop about what's going on at local schools.

The district says it's committed to holding two community meetings every semester, one in each area of the district.

The meetings begin with a short presentation on what is new and current in the district and then the floor is open for questions.

Christy McGee, with D51, says, “I think having them in a location that is accessible to people and convenient to where people live just allows you to come and you can ask a question that may be specific to your school.  You can ask a district wide question, something that has to do with budget, or whatever you want to know about.”

The public is invited to each one of these community meetings and you don't have to attend the one closest to where you live.
