D-51 adopts new school calendar
The school board for District 51 announced the new school calendar for 2013-2014.
According to officials, the board chose to adopt the five-day extended concept calendar for the upcoming academic year.
The decision was made during a meeting on Tuesday night.
The internal structure of the calendar, such as breaks, workdays, conference days, etc. are yet to be determined, school officials report.
The school board chose the extended calendar over other options such as switching to a four-day school week and starting a week earlier.
When considering the change, the school board's goal was to create a calendar that worked for students academically, but also for the parents and the community.
Officials report that district staff should have a calendar for the board to review at a meeting on February 19, at the earliest.
