Coroner releases identity of homicide victim
Shooting occurred Wed. morning off 29 1/2 Rd. in Grand Junction
A man was killed early Wednesday morning after being shot in the chest by his father.
The Mesa County Coroner's Office identified the victim as Garth Byron Meier, 48, of Grand Junction.
The G.J.P.D. was sent out to a home off 29 1/2 Road just before 1:00 a.m. after receiving a call that an adult had been shot.
Three adults were inside the home at the time of the shooting. Police said it appears a man and his son got into an altercation just before the shooting.
When police arrived on scene the victim was already dead. Officers did recover the weapon inside the home.
The coroner's office determined the shooting was a homicide.
Two adults, including the shooter, were taken to the police station for questioning but no arrests have been made yet.
